NEW STUDIO

Over Christmas I moved into my new studio in the high country at the foot of Mt Buller – it was a monumental task getting all my reference library boxed then rehoused…..not to mention my easel which weighs more than a back should be lifting.  Now I know why I am an artist not a removalist!

The view from my studio this morning includes a group of 4 gang gang cockatoos stripping the seeds off a melaleuca…. How lucky am I to have these colourful cockatoos living in and around our garden !

They have been vandalising this tree for several weeks now much to Nicky’s consternation – my partner is a gardening addict. Yellow-tailed black cockatoos made regular flyovers and occasionally land in the forest behind the house.

This provides an excellent opportunity to observe them closely and sketch them in the field. Only field study allows me to catch their JIZZ (‘general impression of size and shape’ for you the non-birdy types) which gives more realism to the pieces I produce.
